Crazy Love eP factornough I wanted description of the strange happenings and creepy rooms Some of this Annual Editions: Technologies, Social Media, and Society exists but the atmosphere could have been amped up another level if time was spentxamining the castle specially the myths surrounding it The reader xperiences Brackenhill through the yes of Hannah who narrates almost the ntire novel Chapters switch back and forth between then and now but do not alternate ie there might be several now chapters in a row In the nd I realized that Hannah was a dynamic character than I initially believed At the same time her character both annoyed and frustrated me She comes off as self righteous as she constantly uestions other s behavior but participates in uestionable behavior herself Her tone at times is whiny and childish which was fine in the then chapters when she was 15 but not in the current moment when she is supposed to be 28 years old is supposed to be 28 years old plot is familiar sister goes missing another sister investigates and in the process digs up buried family secrets and so on But the setting of the castle adds a uniue layer to this plot I found the pacing a bit slow but "others found it to be fast paced so this might just be meI sat on "found it to be fast paced so this might just be meI sat on this review for a bit because I am torn about how I feel On the one *hand this Girls of Brackenhill offers a lot a uniue atmosphere a dynamic narrator and a captivating *this Girls of Brackenhill offers a lot a uniue atmosphere a dynamic narrator and a captivating On the other hand I struggled with the pacing Hannah s character the structure of the narrative tc This book has so much potential but it could have been strengthened by adding scenes around the castle And WTF was with that nding It was weird specially the final chapter which I found confusing The New Plant Parent: Learn the Ways of Plant Parenthood ending also felt unfinished and I was left with MANY unanswered uestions Overall this was a mixed bag for me It is a decent mysterythriller but it lacks the magic of an amazing one I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher inxchange for an honest review The Girls of Brackenhill a mysterythriller was a solid 4 stars The book centers around main character Hannah after a tragic a Full disclosure I m a lifelong gothic junkie That said it probably won t surprise you that I loved Kate Moretti s most recent book The Girls of Brackenhill is the second Moretti novel I ve read and it was Dreaming Me: An African-American Woman's Buddhist Journey exactly what I ve been craving It s got a dilapidated castle in the Catskills a mysterious death a flurry of disappearances and a generous dash of the supernatural I m not sure if it tops her previous novel The Blackbird Season but Moretti does ratc. Nsion in the Catskill mountains her beloved aunt has been killed in a tragic car accident and her uncle is gravely ill and at thend of his life to the scene of her Het up the ghostly mythical God's Pocket elements and a sense of uncertainty pervades the story Not only is Hannah Maloney an unreliable narrator but her older sister Julia is also a character whose perceptions can t be trusted And then there s the crazy aunt the local witch and the delirious silent uncle The story begins with a car crash that jolts Hannah out of her placid oh so sensiblexistence After 17 years spent avoiding Rockwell the town where she d spent her summers as a young girl she finds herself forced to avoiding Rockwell the town where she d spent her summers as *A Young Girl She Finds *young girl she finds forced to memories she s avoided since Julia disappeared in 2002 Chapters alternate between Hannah past and Hannah present which gives readers a gradual sense of what went wrong But ЯED even at thend of the book there is no clear resolution and for some reason I found that really satisfying There s a circular nature to vents as well as to places and characters When Hannah and Julia first arrive at their Aunt Fae s castle they get lost in the vast labyrinthine basement No matter how methodically they try to scape the dark space they simply can t find their way out as if they ve stumbled into a time and a space where logic doesn t apply Unlike her sister Hannah doesn t buy into anything that s not rational But she s still conflicted still confused Brackenhill is an The Lost Art of Reading Natures Signs eerie haunted dwelling but it also brings her back to a dreamy fantastical moment in her life Her current day relationships are mostly transactional but they weren t then Which is one reason she refuses to believe her sister is dead Julia must havescaped somehow broken free of the ominous drudgery of their mother s homeThe plot had many twists and is wonderfully fast paced I also liked Hannah "despite her failings I ven liked the crazy aunt the disheveled witch and the town drunk "her failings I ven liked the crazy aunt the disheveled witch and the town drunk characters though I can t say I d want to hang out with them All in all this was a great fun spooky read a la the Brothers Grimm It reminds me of Carol Goodman s novels which are also usually set in the Catskills but it has its own distinct style Much thanks to Thomas Mercer and Netgalley for an ARC in Monsieur Pain exchange for an honest review A looming castle a woman haunted by her sister s unsolved disappearance and long buried secrets clawing their way up to the surface Kate Moretti deftly weaves it all together in a gripping gothic ghost story of the first order GIRLS OF BRACKENHILL is full of chills thrills and dark surprises You won t stop turning the pages until the stunningnd and A Spark of Light: the fearless new novel from the Number One bestselling author even then you ll be sleeping with the lights on Don t miss Ister's mysterious and traumatic disappearance sixteen yearsarlier She discovers that some family secrets will not stay buried and sometimes old ghosts haunt forever. Her Work As An
work as an Brackenhill has a tried and true plot that will be familiar to most seasoned readers of psychological suspense and I think the strength of this story is in its ncompassing atmosphere and compelling narration rather than any unsuspected twists and turns As you can probably tell from my rating this isn t my favorite novel from Kate Moretti but don t let that stop tell from my rating this isn t my favorite novel from Kate Moretti but don t let that stop from giving this one a try I mainly struggled with the pacing and the lack of full closure at the nd of the story As a reader I think this one was just not a full on hit for me but will look forward to the author s future works with as much gusto as I anticipated this one Many thanks to the publisher for providing my review copy I read this The Exhaustion Breakthrough eerie and completely captivating thriller in one breathless day Enough said Review to come I ll never sleep again and it s all this book s fault ARC provided by NetGalley inxchange for a review As a big fan of Kate Moretti s previous works I was truly The Exhaustion Breakthrough: Unmask the Hidden Reasons You're Tired and Beat Fatigue for Good excited to get lost in her new claustrophobic facing your past and dirty family secrets traumaticxperiences story It begins fas This was a wonderful gothic new claustrophobic facing your past and dirty family secrets traumatic Supplemental Book experiences story It begins fas This was a wonderful gothic to get lost in Hannah hasn t been back to her family s mansion in the Catskills since she was a teen and her older sister disappeared However she s called back when her aunt is involved in a tragic accident and she needs to return to her uncle Along the way she discovers memories long forgotten ghosts that need to be laid to rest and secrets that should have been kept buried This story will keep you guessing and give you chills deep into the night Loved itThank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC inxchange for an honest review Kindle First October Creepy Castle and Missing Girls35 starsGirls of Brackenhill is a psychological thriller about a mysterious gothic castle in the Catskills where girls go missing without a trace 13 years ago Hannah s sister Julia went missing from Brackehill Castle Hannah returns to the creepy castle where strange things happen to bury her aunt While there she begins to investigate what really happened to Julia and in the process puts herself in dangerBrackenhilll Castle plays a central role in this book There are strange noises creepy basement rooms and other weird happenings that occur on the grounds While the setting is intriguing and sounds creepy I feel like Morretti doesn t play around with the cree.
