Because I love the characters in it OK the hero has a toddler son and I pretty much universally find toddlers in romances kind of annoying because instead of being characters they re like props to bring the hero and heroine closer together Kid is cute asks if H is new mommydaddy there is awkwardness and heroine closer together Kid is cute asks if H is new mommydaddy there is awkwardness then the kid disappears until like the end of the novel I m just saying romance heroines don t do a lot of parenting most of the time So this book has a bit of that but there s a Mexican nanny so I guess the toddler is not being allowed to roam the Texas frontier on his lonesomeAnyway post Civil War Western set in Texas The hero is neither a cowboy nor a marshal though and the heroine isn t some sort of rancher princess No the hero is the editor of a small town newspaper and the heroine is get this his typesetter and pressman You kn. Turned out to be a meddlesome female and a Yanker to boot But her fiery beauty still attracted him though he knew perfectly well that a woman couldn't be trustedLove saw with the heart not the eye. I would have given this book a four or five However our heroine who is brave loving pushy and puts herself in danger who is brave loving and smart puts herself in danger She also doesn t tell our hero some pertinent information She s an intelligent woman so why would she be that stupid Garrick our hero would have also placed himself in danger if not for his brother These instances were very annoying to me so that is why I m rating the book a three Other than that I really enjoyed the book It had an adorable kid which I like in books and great diverse characters I liked how the novel s setting was a newspaper printing establishment It was interesting to learn about the history Um I kind of love this book The writing isn t ohmigod Knock Your Socks Off Amazing Or Anything your socks off amazing or anything it s competent Very readable and that is something that is very difficult to do No I love this book. You Just Couldn't Count On A WomanThat's what Garrick Devlin believed when his wife deserted him after the war Now he'd been deceived by a woman again The man he'd hired for his Texas newspaper had.
